A Little Trip on the Little Miami

I started out the morning with a cup of coffee a post hole digger and spud bar and headed to the lovely Little Miami Scenic River. Jacoby launch in Greene County was my first stop. What a beautiful place this was. Secluded, quiet and overflowing with wonderful nature. The hole was easy to dig, what could go wrong? Post in, 50 bags later I was on my way.

I soon arrived at The Narrows Reserve, and selected a site for the box. This hole wasn’t so easy! But a few sparks off the lime stone later the hole was dug, pole in, box attached and bags loaded.

I was off to Mill Bridge Launch in Bellbrook. Beautiful park but did need a little pizza party litter cleaned up. A friend, Jonathan Cooper Redfern dropped by. He will be maintaining these boxes! Thanks very much Jonathan for helping with the program!

Next was Constitution Park in Spring Valley. I remembered camping here last year on our Paddle to Paddlefest! They have a new concrete ramp and the dirt to dig the hole was like concrete too! After a good 30 minute dig the box was in the ground. I got lucky and met the owner of Rivers Edge Livery. I gave him a box and pole and bags and he said he would put it in at their place. So it was two boxes at one stop!

Then it was off to Caesar Creek State Park where I installed boxes at Young Road Boat Launch, Campground Boat Ramp, and the North Pool Ramp. As I was installing the North Pool Box my friend Mike Schumacher. He took me on a tour of the Marina, and we placed a box at Furnas Shores Ramp. It was a quarter inch of dirt at a time on that hole. It about got the best of me. We toured below the dam in the gorge where I will be putting a box next week maybe. We went to the Visitor Center, the Nature Center, the Frontier Village. After that we put our last box in at Wellman Meadows Ramp. Our day was done!

After all our hard work we needed a good restaurant cooked home cooked meal. That is another story.

All in all it was a very productive day. Special thanks to Ohio Scenic Rivers Association for your donation that paid for the boxes and bags on the Little Miami River.
