Yesterday we divided into three teams and took on the 15 miles of the Mohican River. We had a team that worked from the Confluence of Clear Fork and Black Fork to Arrowpoint Campgrounds. Another went from Greer to the Brinkhaven Park, and another from Bridge of Dreams to Covallo. I especially want to thank my team leaders, Mindy Wilson (WooWoo), Rosemarie Caskey, Ashlee Smith, Irv Oslin and Mike Cannon for all their super work getting this done. I can’t say enough for the volunteers or came out. Some it was their first big cleanup, some old pros, everyone brought in a haul of garbage that was unbelievable in it’s scope.
It is amazing to me that at the end of all this hard work, people are so happy. Laughing, enjoying themselves, taking silly pictures sitting on broken chairs and muddy bicycles. Everyone working as a team pulling stuff up steep banks. Even at the end, right at the bottom of the ramp, Casey didn’t have enough he had to find a air conditioner that was full of mud and weighed at least 150 pounds. With team work it went up the bank and into the dumpster. 60 tires total were found. Look at the pictures and you will wonder how in the heck someone can balance that many tires on one canoe. Paula got 6 tires on a kayak!
Special Thanks to Arrowpoint Campground for allowing us to use their dumpster for trash and their ramp to get out at. Tanks to Republic Services for their donation of a dumpster. Thanks to the Knox County Litter Prevention for help with supplies, and the Knox County Commissioners for tire disposal for the Knox County Tires.
Pictures of our day, in no particular order, every team worked so hard, just look at the smiles. If you want to go to bed at the end of a day, satisfied that you did your part and a good thing, come to a litter cleanup event!
